Madeup 08

This is a project running throughout the Bootle area (from year six upwards) designed to engage young people in exploring issues of self-image and promote positive role models. Along with workshops and lessons we are running an inter-schools fashion show.

Workshops and lessons in high schools will also feature the performing arts team.... 'PURE' who will be performing 'Mirror Mirror' a production based around the theme of Bulimia, Anorexia and self image.

There will also be rap workshops exploring ideas of positive self-image.

Plus - we'll be going to primary schools throughout the area delivering fun workshops on self-esteem, respect and self-image.

Fashion Show

The competition is aimed at moving away from the size 0 models and 'the look' that counts, to focus on creativity, identity and positive self-image, encouraging pupils' designs to reflect this.

Part of the pize for the wining entrants is to have their designs made up. Opportunity to model or get one of their mates to model the final outfit t the fashion show.

The fashion show itself will take place on 8th April, 7pm, St George of England High School, Fernhill Road, Bootle. (See all the competition winning designs.) Followed by exhibition of costumes and workshops. Contact Ykids for tickets.

All the designs have been based on one of the following themes....

'Famous Liverpool'

(designs based on what makes Liverpool great. Is it the Beatles, football, the Mersey or something else?).

'Fitness'

(Looking good while exercising - can you make those trackies look cool?)

'2020 Vision'

(What will we be wearing in 2020? Jet propelled boots or silver jump suits?)

'Carnival'

(Designs on a carnival theme, maybe tied in to Liverpool being the European Capital of Culture).

'Environment'

(A design made up of recycled materials or from an environmentally sustainable source. Using natural dyes etc and being aware of fair trade.
