Why do projects ?
Quite often the ideas for new projects come from the children and young people themselves (especially when we get groups together over pizza for a chat). We try to respond to community and individual needs as much as we can. Check out some of our latest projects by following the links on the left of this page.
We want to make a real difference to children and young people whose aspirations and horizons are sometimes limited to patterns of living that will do them and others harm. That's why at Ykids we are keen to develop projects that really benefit children and young people, as well as inspire and excite them about their life choices.
We work with great children and young people across Merseyside. Some come from good backgrounds and loving homes, but many are not so fortunate. For all of them we want life to open up new possibilities, start to believe in themselves more, and have a lot of fun in the process. A number of children have even expressed that because of Ykids they have at last begun to see that life can be good.
Sometimes the events we run only last a day, others for a couple of weeks or a whole term. For many of the children and young people though, we're building up long term relationships that are lasting for years, especially through our mentoring projects. Many parents, teachers and community leaders have commented on the positive changes they have seen as a result of these projects and events both in individuals and communities.
Merseyside
There's nowhere else like Merseyside. We're not short on character, pride, heart, passion, and humour. Liverpool and the regions around it have so much to offer that you would need to write a book to list it all.
But around this great city we've got significant pockets of deprivation that can be extremely challenging for children and young people to grow up in. (The location of the Ykids office in the Orrell area of Bootle is in the top 2% most deprived areas in the UK according to the 2006 Multiple Indices of Deprivation).
More to come
Every year since 2004 we've been adding to the range and ambition of the projects we run. (And we're chomping at the bit to do very much more). Check out some of our latest projects and future plans through the links on the left of this page.
Most of what we do is accomplished on a shoestring budget. Our highly motivated team of staff and volunteers work very hard (sometimes working through the night to make these projects happen).
But, like many small charities, we dream of having the resources to make a difference to more children and young people's lives. So, if you are in a position to help us financially, please would you seriously consider making a difference by making a donation to Ykids.
We'd be delighted to show you our financial report and accounts. Also, we are confident that any school, community group, church, funding body and especially the youth and children that have been involved with our projects would be really pleased to recommend Ykids to you.
