What is Redi ?

Redi is a mentoring project for 8 - 13 year olds that everyone wants to get into! It consists of blocks of 12 weeks at a time and offers a huge range of exciting diversionary activities.

Here are some examples of some of our Redi Projects currently running...

'Movie Magic'

The young people on the project write, star in, direct, shoot and edit their own movie. At the end of the 12 weeks they host a premiere with invitations to family, friends etc.

'Flight Project'

Making & flying a model aeroplane as a team, making & flying kites, a visit to Liverpool John Lennon Airport etc. The project culminates in a trip to London to enter the Red Bull Flugtag Challenge in Hyde Park and send one of the Redi leaders off the 6m pier flying a contraption which they have designed and built as a team.

'Sports Academy'

A different sporting activity every night. Wheelchair basketball, curling, archery, judo, ten pin bowling, quick cricket, etc etc etc. (Specialist sportspeople assist in many of the different sports).

'Redi Steady Cook'

Taking young people on a 12 week whirlwind tour of cooking, from boiling an egg through to cooking a four course dinner. (Eating meals they have prepared each session). At the end they have the opportunity of inviting guests to a special dinner they have prepared as a team.

'Money Money Money'

Learning business skills of making money. With a budget supplied by Redi, children work to add value to products and offer for sale + work on other business ideas. All profits made go to a local charity. (Currently Alder Hey Children's Hospital).

'Art Attack'

Huge range of craft activities over the project. Silk painting, willow lanterns, treasure boxes, glass painting etc etc etc.

'Dance & Drama'

Learning modern street dance and drama techniques. Develop material together and have an opportunity to perform at an event to an invited audience.

Soon to launch...

'The Dangerous Club for Boys'

and

'The Dangerous Club for Girls.'

Both clubs will have a huge range of activities with a real edge to them. Ranging from den building, self defence, survival skills, cooking, making bows and arrows etc etc etc.

'Rap Star'

Learning how to write and perform rap. At the end of the project everyone will visit a recording studio and have their own rap song recorded and produced. (With a cd to take away).

What we aim for at Redi...

Great projects and activities are only half the picture. Through our teams of highly motivated staff building up positive relationships with the young people, we hope to improve their sense of self worth, inspire them with new skills, invest time and attention to each one, and reflect back their strengths and abilities.

The young people are unlikely to have any sense of being on a 'mentoring' project... but they do have a great time, make friends and start to see themselves in a new light. We want their horizons to broaden as wide as their dreams can reach.

They don't have to follow the crowd into patterns of living that do them and others harm. Just because these young people are growing up in areas of deprivation, and sometimes difficult home situations doesn't mean they can't aim high and find a framework to move forward and see that life can be good.
